For many people the dream of being their own boss and working from home is very strong and won’t go away. There are many things you can do, some make more sense than others. I’ve been working from home for the last eight years. I think one of the best ways to start or try working from home is by selling through online auctions.

I have been doing this full-time and part-time since 2001. If you are looking for extra money or to make it a part-time job, online auction sales is probably the best place to start.

You can start by selling unused stuff from around your house. After you have sold every unwanted item from your home you can start going to garage sales and thrift stores. Before you sell anything, even if it is your own cast-off, you need to do research. If you choose to sell on eBay you can search for similar items and check the completed items box in the left hand column. The results will show how many and for how much they have sold for in the last two weeks. You don’t want to try to selling something that won’t make any money.

It is probably best when buying to sell from a thrift store or garage sale, to start with items you are familiar with, that way you have a better chance of buying something you can sell for a profit. By studying the closed prices at the auction site you are using, you can get an learn what the selling prices are. If you have a web enabled phone, you can do the closing price search at the garage sale or store before you buy the item.

Selling through online auctions isn’t easy and you won’t get rich quick from it, but it is one of the few ways you can get started without much money or training.
